All motorbikes take an amount of maintenance so that they are kept in the best condition. Despite the fact that modern bikes are designed to be as reliable as possible, care and attention are still needed. On-going, simple tasks are just the things to get top performance quality as well as safety out of motorbikes. For a guide to keeping your motorcycle in the best condition, see the following.

The Brakes

Check the brake fluid reservoirs on a regular basis. Use a brand new bottle of brake fluid every time as it absorbs moisture very easily over time. If you want improved brake performance, rather than using stock brake lines, install the braided variety.

The Tyres

Ensure tyres are correctly inflated and check their pressure often. Use a pencil-type tyre gauge until you can get a feeling for how much they should be inflated. If tread is more than 2mm deep, replace the tyres. If you don’t, not only will stability and traction become issues, your safety will be at risk too.

Shaft, Chains, Belt

Each time you fill up motorbikes with fuel, the chains will need to be lubricated with chain spray. Shaft oil must be replaced each time you change your engine oil. Belt tension should be checked frequently and the belt itself should be clean all the time.

Oil

It is up for debate how frequently the engine oil has to be changed. However, expect to change it about every three months or so. Fresh oil keeps your engine healthier and makes it last for longer. Check the levels regularly so that you can begin to get an idea of when it needs to be changed. At all times, aim to have the oil level very close to the maximum level.

Battery Charge

Check your battery is charged to 100% once a month. Batteries in motorbikes lose charge very quickly, so it is particularly important to make sure it is looked after during the winter, and periods where you are not riding.
