You just need an old scooter with hand breaks and rubber tires and a chainsaw engine and that is it.

It is wise to use quality components for your children gas scooter and because there are only a few components this should not make it more costly. Even if the individual parts are second hand make sure that they all work properly before putting them together or you will build a children gas scooter that falls apart in next to no time.

What kind of parts do you need to build a children gas scooter

The type of scooter that you use is very important. At one time children scooters without hand breaks and rubber tires were all the rage and you could probably find a second hand one that is practically new for nothing. The thing is though that these types of scooters are not suitable to use for your children gas scooter. The wheels will not be able to handle anything other than pavement. Try it on rough terrain and you are sure to learn the painful way that rubber tires are the way to go. So, when you decide to build a children gas scooter you should choose a scooter with rubber tires and hand brakes.

The next big part is the chainsaw engine, you should leave it in its casing, this will make it easier to mount onto the scooter. Take off the bar and chain from the machine. If your engine uses a 2-stroke motor then keep the centrifugal clutch intact. Otherwise remove it from the crankshaft.

You will need to bolt one of the sprockets to the rear axle of the scooter. And place the motor on the deck. You have to make sure that all the sprockets are inline or you will not be able to build a children gas scooter. To fix the engine casing and the scooter together you will have to drill holes through both and then bolt them together.

This step needs you to be quite exact in your measurements. If the housing is plastic this is especially so. If the washers and screws are not the right size you risk tearing right through the plastic. If you can get hold of an engine with metal housing then this would be a sturdier option.

After that you should attach a bike chain to the sprockets. It might be necessary to shorten the bike chain by removing links so that the chain is taut. The next part in how to build a children gas scooter can be a bit difficult. You need to wire the hand accelerator on/off switch to the engine while attaching it to the handlebars. But when you have done so you can be proud because you now have build your own children gas scooter.
