Everything About Scooter Mileage
July 22nd, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedProbably the only time you need to know something about scooter mileage is when you are buying a scooter or when you are selling one. There are some aspects you should be aware of considering scooter mileage we will address to in this article. But first what is scooter mileage? It is really quite simple. Mileage refers to the number of kilometers on the vehicle that have been or can be used, and so scooter mileage is the exact same only speaking of a scooter and not another type of vehicle.
High or low Mileage for a Scooter?
Scooter mileage is very different from car or truck mileage for instance, and especially when you are shopping for a used scooter you will need to be aware of the scooter mileage and use this to help you decide whether or not it is going to be worth you to purchase the scooter.
High mileage for a scooter is typically around 60,000-70,000km so anything under that is not a bad buy. Obviously the lower you can get the better, especially if you are putting a significant amount of money toward the scooter, because you will want it to last you as long as possible.
There are a few scooters in particular that are known for being good on gas and the Suzuki AN250 and Honda Forza are two. They are both very reliable and have great mileage, and should even easily pass the 70,000km point if ridden safely.
But There Are Other Points to Consider
There are other factors than the scooter mileage you should be considering here. For one you will want to think about the size of the scooter. Think about how many people are going to be driving on it on average, you or you and a passenger. If you are going to be the only one riding it then you will have a lot more freedom whereas if there will be someone else going with you on most of the rides you will want to get a larger sized scooter.
There are certain features you should keep your eye out for, like brakes on the handlebars that some of the scooters have. There are other scooters that have a foot brake over the rear wheel, handle brakes as these are easiest to use and are more convenient.

The Cushman Scooter a True American Brand
July 5th, 2008    Subscribe To Our FeedWhen we think about scooters we often think about brand names like Vespa, Aprillia and Honda all not originated in the US, but there is a pure American scooter brand that has a rich history and a growing popularity take a look at the Cushman scooter, produced in the USA, and only in the USA. Cushman scooter is an American icon of vintage and independence at least according the many Cushman scooter hobbyists.
Cushman the Lincoln pride
Although Cushman has changed hands many times in its history, the name stretches back over one hundred years to Lincoln, Nebraska. Originally, Cushman made not motor scooters, but nearly every other kind of small motor. The company, before the first Cushman scooter in 1935, made everything from washing machines to two-stroke boat motors. The story goes that a child brought his scooter to the motor works to inquire about fixing his machine, which then had a Cushman washing machine motor in it. Owner Charles Ammon was intrigued by the scooter and thought it was a prime opportunity.
A Bit Of Cushman History
A promotional flyer for the first Cushman scooter, or auto-glide from 1937 boasts of 137-mpg fuel efficiency, decades before the term green vehicle was coined. The scooters became popular in the thirties and forties, but it was their wartime use that cemented Cushman scooters in history.
The company soon secured a contract for Cushman scooters to be used on the field in WWII. Reinforcing the scooters with steel and fitting them for parachutes easily solved the problem of transport to the battlefield. These rugged models roamed all throughout Europe during WWII and the Cushman Company was also successful in producing bomb fuses.
By far the most successful brand was the Cushman Eagle motor scooter. This run included several series, including the Super and Super Eagle. They were produced from 1950 to 1965 and are beloved by collectors across the country. The Cushman Auto Club of America has over 5200 members and it is the Cushman Eagle motor scooter that many of them aspire to recreate, often in their own garages at great personal cost.
Cushman scooter at present day
The recreation of Cushman scooters like the Cushman Eagle motor scooters continues, there is a very active community of Cushman lovers and this will only grow over time. The company itself has been in a number of hands and is currently owned by the Textron company from Rhode Island. This company also owns Bell Helicopters and Cessna Airplanes.
